What Am I Doing?

Am I doing what I am supposed to be doing?

Do you ever ask yourself this question?

Have you ever been frustrated because you were trying to please someone and you did what you thought they wanted; and really it wasn’t what they wanted after all?
Sometimes it is a lot easier if someone just tells you outright, “this is what I really want.”

Thankfully God’s Word is very clear with us. He tells us exactly what He is looking for!
It is possible to spend our life trying to please God in ways that are not what He has spelled out in His Word at all. That is why it is so important to spend time reading and studying the Bible.

We have to start with the understanding that His ways are not our ways. In Isaiah 55:8-9 God tells us, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

God’s ways don’t always make sense to us.  We can’t take the Creator of the whole universe and expect to “figure Him out” with our minds.  A lot of the Bible seems upside down to world’s way of thinking.

It requires faith, belief that produces action, to grow in God’s ways and gain further understanding.

There are 3 things God wants us to focus on and in some ways, they build on each other.
     1. “To do justly”: Justly – from the word “justice” – simply put: “what is right”
     2. “To love mercy”:  The Golden Rule is a good measuring stick – “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” We all want mercy and understanding when we mess up. Let’s show it to others.
     3. “Walk humbly”: Not bold or proud but expressing respect for the wishes of others.

Michah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

So, it boils down to a lot of small daily choices and as we get those right – the right way will be clear when it comes to the bigger life choices.
