Visiting India

What an amazing country! I have met so many amazing people and I have enjoyed my time here. It has been such a blessing to have this special time with family and meet so many of their friends. It is so satisfying to see how well they are doing and enjoy time with the little great grandsons.  Emmanuel is just over one month old and Jonathan turned two years old during my visit.

Psalm 24:1 tells us that, “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to Him.”  There is such diversity in various places and people. I love visiting the different countries and experiencing the different cultures. But as I do, I always sense that God loves diversity but His heart’s desire is to reveal Himself and His love to all people. They are all precious in His sight.

Roughly 33 million people live in Delhi in an area about one half the size of the state of Rhode Island. So travel takes time and patience. It has been the rainy season here so everything looks green and lush. Cows are considered sacred by some of the people so they cannot be harmed. (No beef eaten here.) Cows are allowed to wander through city streets and neighborhoods which can cause traffic jams. You also need to “ponder the path of your feet”.

India is one of the ancient civilizations and has a rich cultural history. Although India is characterized by a diversity of religious beliefs and practices,  Jews and Christians have lived continuously in India since 200 BC and 52 AD respectively. India is the largest democracy and the 7th largest country in the world. I didn’t realize that the game of chess was invented in India and algebra, trigonometry, and calculus are studies that all originated in India. The peacock is the national bird and I saw some wild peacocks not far from where I am staying just wandering in a field. The tiger is the national animal and thankfully I didn’t see any of them.

It is always a privilege to visit another country. There is so much to experience and learn. It causes us to evaluate our mindsets and ways of doing everyday life. We have the opportunity to see the wonders of God’s creation and recognize His majesty.
