Stepping Back In Time
Time travel is an interesting concept – traveling back in time. Since arriving in the Philippines, I feel like I have done just that. It is wonderful to visit places that are so familiar to me. Things have changed but much is the same – climate, roads, familiar sounds and even smells. All these things stir up so many memories for me. Memories of God’s faithfulness.
The best part is reconnecting with so many precious friends – my sisters and brothers in Christ here. Some I have known for thirty-eight years! We were all younger then but it is wonderful to hear their stories and see what God has done in their lives. Now I am privileged to meet their children as adults and some of their grandchildren. It is amazing to see the faithfulness of God walked out over decades in each life. No life has been without challenges, tears, and struggles along the way but much joy and many victories also.
Some dear friends arranged for us to visited the Mansion House in Baguio City, Philippines. This was a presidential mansion that has recently been turned into a historical museum featuring the presidents of the Philippines. While on the tour, as the guide told about former president, Ferdinand Marcos, and the People Power Revolution, I remembered that in February 1986, after President Marcos exited the country, my husband and I were on the first flight coming into the country. There were many former diplomats who had been exiled from the country on our plane and a lot of excitement. Now as I return, his son is the president. Things have gone full circle.
Also, the guide told us about President Joseph Estrada. Bob and I had met him when he visited Vietnam during his presidency. I marvel at the many opportunities and privileges God afforded us. As we follow the leading of Holy Spirit, we experience things that we could have never imagined and certainly could not have arranged.
Isaiah 42:16 “I will lead them in paths that they have not known.”
Isaiah 30:21 “ And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,’ this is the way, walk in it’, when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
I encourage you to take some time and reflect back over your life.
Recognize the leading of the Lord and thank Him for His loving kindness and care.
