Hridoy comes from a very poor family who lives in a house pieced together using scrap building materials. He attended school at the Home of Peace in northern Bangladesh. He finished his basic education and continues to live there as he attends “college” (11th grade) in a neighboring town. As he rode his bicycle back from college he found a bag along the road. Upon opening it he found over 1/2 million taka (more than three years’ rural wages)! His heart beat fast when he realized how much money he was holding. That evening he saw a posting on social media that a business in the community had lost an important bag of money, and even though it seemed unlikely, they were requesting “that some kind person would find it in their heart to return it.” The name Hridoy means “kind hearted“. When he read this, he saw his own name…”would some kind hearted (Hridoy) please return it”! At the Home of Peace they had a special training called “No Corruption Generation” teaching them about honesty and integrity. He knew in his heart what he must do. When he returned the money, the news of what he did went viral. The entire region heard his story and was amazed at his honesty. As a reward his family was given a cow and he received money to buy new clothes. It also was a huge validation for the Home of Peace because all could see they develop young people of character and values. Hridoy’s kindness and integrity not only affected their entire region, but is now being shared around the world!
