Close to the Brokenhearted

One of our Nepali friends has gone to the affected area of the August 26 flooding in Nepal. He traveled as far as he could by vehicle and then walked an additional 3 hours. Many of the roads are closed because of the flooding. At this time more than 1,200 have died and at least 4,000 are still missing. At least 17 churches have been destroyed and hundreds of Christians are missing, including 7 pastors. In one village all the church members have died, only the pastor survived.

We have sent money to our friend and so far he has distributed food to 60 families. These food packs included 30 kg of rice, 1 kg each of salt, lentils, and soybeans and 1 liter of oil. Many have asked how they can help. First, please pray for the people of Nepal as they search for loved ones, clean up the villages that were flooded and then begin rebuilding their lives. They are dealing with enormous grief and loss. Please pray that the Gospel will be proclaimed and received at this time of devastation. Second, if you would like to give you can send money to Vessels of Mercy. 100% of what is designated for relief will go to Nepal. Right now this money will go towards food and basic, necessary items that were lost. Eventually we would like to be able to help with the rebuilding process.
